Stickbulb's material language has always been salvaged wood with a honest, structural and resolved construction. Pleat's design starts from a hard constraint: a standard 6" × 1" salvaged lumber plank, and the directive to remove as little of it as possible.
The goal was to utilize the parts of the wood with imperfections. Knots, grain irregularities, and character marks that would typically be milled still remain a part of the structure.
The wood profile is milled with wood moulding technique like how doors are made, and the flat surface with knots and irregularities are being used to house custom LEDS.
Kozo - a Japanese handmade paper known for its translucency and fiber texture is pleated and set into the wood's slots as diffusers. it is secured by metal claws that magnetically attach to the wood structure.
Pleat is a modular light that can be sized from 2ft long to 8 feet. No adhesives are used in the whole construction, the entire fixture can be dis-assembled, making it easy to repair and replace parts.
The result is a study in tension: minimal and muscular in form, yet warm and atmospheric in its illumination.
